Design and Development
Quarry design and development planning depends on a sound understanding, in three dimensions, of the geological and geotechnical
settings of the site and the quarrying objectives within the landscape.
PGW&A, in common with many operating companies, work with LSS and AutoCAD to produce plans, sections and 3D visualisations
that are readily used and understood by other professionals. Typically survey data and geological and geotechnical information
can be simply incorporated using LSS to give working plans and information for mineral reserve estimates and future development
options.
Health and Safety matters also need to be incorporated into the design of mineral workings. The generation and handling of
waste materials that arise in mineral operations or in subsequent afteruses may influence both the workings and the nature
of afteruses, especially for built development. The Partners also have experience with the preparation of Health and
Safety documentation and Expert Witness reporting with respect to accidents and related matters.
Our experience with quarry operations extends from aggregates to coal, from building stone to cement raw materials and
from roofing materials to gypsum, specialist clays, pigments and whiteners.
